WHOLE30 Week 1 Recap …

 

 

Yep, I’m really doing this. I know what you’re thinking … How the hell can I go 30 days without my delicious, sugary, poisonous creamer filled coffee and my bottle glass of wine every night … I surprised myself too! But I set out to do this and I will finish these 30 days! You can order the Whole30 or Whole30 Cookbook from Amazon.

So, the basis of this is total elimination of sugar, grains, legumes, dairy, and alcohol. CRAZY TALK!! Yes, this means no yummy desserts, no bagel with cream cheese, no creamy pasta dishes, NOTHING!!!

I decided to cut out coffee for the month because I was getting heartburn and let’s be honest, I’d rather not drink it at all than to drink it black. Besides, it’s only 30 days … if I can’t make it 30 days, what am I good for?!

Anyway, I’m in this group on Facebook headed by none other than the amazing Lauren McBride. Seriously though, she’s great! From fashion to DIY and everything in between, this blog has it all. She takes you into her home and into her life and you don’t want to miss a single post. And she is the sweetest most genuine person you’ll meet. You can check out her blog here. She decided she wanted to start a large group Whole30 so I figured I have nothing to lose, so why not!

Now, let me just say, I personally would love to lose weight while doing Whole30 but it is not a lose 25 lbs in a month scheme. It is designed to reset the way you eat by eliminating foods that are not very good for you.

Let me tell you … this was a piece of cake the first few days minus the horrific withdrawal headaches. Breakfasts all week consisted of eggs, spinach, bacon/sausage, potatoes, and/or avocado as well as some fruits. Lunches were either really big salads or leftovers from dinner the night before. And most dinners were prepared in advance to make it easier to stick to the plan.

By day 4, I thought I might kill my husband and by day 6, I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I’m tired. I am SO TIRED!! Day 6 was Saturday and we were removing all traces of Christmas from our house. I said that I was just going to lie down for 5 minutes to rest my back. TWO HOURS LATER!!! I emerged from my bed looking like the morning after and felt even more exhausted than when I fell asleep.

Day 7 …. Give me ALL the chocolate in all the land and give it to me now!!! Brownies, cookies, cake, ice cream, candy bars, I don’t care, I want them, I NEED them! BUT I didn’t stray from the plan once. And guess what? I didn’t die!! I have lost 5 lbs and 3 inches and my heartburn is completely gone!!! Weighing yourself goes against the Whole30 rules but let’s be honest, if it’s between a loaf of bread, a tray of brownies, or weighing myself … I choose the scale!!!

 

Here are a few of the meals we had this week.

 

 

 

2 eggs (any style), spinach, mushrooms, compliant bacon and Frank’s Red Hot

 

 

 

 

2 Hard boiled eggs, ½ of an avocado, 1 cup of strawberries, 1 cup of pineapple and Frank’s Red Hot

 

 

 

 

 

Apples w/ Barneys Almond Butter and two hard-boiled eggs make a nice quick breakfast.

Chicken “No Noodle” Soup

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chicken Bake w/ Roasted Veggies and Potatoes

 

 

 

 

And I can’t live without La Croix Sparking Water. When you’re limited on beverages, this just makes your life ten times easier! With so many flavors to choose from, you’re always far from bored with this drink.

 

Notice how there are no desserts on here? That’s because we’re not allowed to snack. The whole premise is to fuel your body enough with three meals each day. Not snacking is SO hard for this self-proclaimed grazer. Now, onto Day 8. See you next week for the recap of Week 2!
